Twin towns of 1770 and Agnes Water are located on a magical stretch of sub-tropical surf coastline, north of Fraser Island and south of the Whitsundays. The town of 1770 is named after the visit of Lieut. James Cook in May 1770. Cook's second landfall in Australia, the first in Queensland, gives rise to the area's claim to be the birthplace of Queensland. The infamous Agnes Water is the most northern surf beach on the east coast. Agnes Water offers a beautiful, patrolled surf beach, whilst 1770 is located on the calm waters of Roundhill estuary - the gateway to the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. The two towns are simply 6 kilometres apart from each other.
